Mukta Mahajani MUKTA MAHAJANI is a lawyer and best selling author with a career spanning over 19 years. She has degrees from India in Psychology and Anthropology (B.A.) from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai University, Mumbai, a degree from University of Buckingham, UK (LL.B Hons) and a degree from Boston University School of Law with a specialization in Alternate Dispute Resolution, USA (LL.M) and training in negotiation from Harvard Law School. Mukta started her career with the Aditya Birla Group after her LL.B working first with the corporate legal cell reporting to the Head, Corporate Legal Cell and also to the Aditya Birla Management Board on special projects and then with Mrs. Rajashree Birla, Owner and Director, Aditya Birla Group in her work under Corporate Social Responsibility. She then worked with Wockhardt Ltd in medical negligence cases and later went to USA for her LL.M. Mukta went on to work with the World Bank Group in Washington, DC as a consultant in Social Development Department (SDV), South Asia Social Development Sector (SASSD) and Africa Poverty Reform and Economic Management Sectors (AFTPR) in the field of Alternate Dispute Resolution mainly, Mediation. She has been credited by the World Bank Group for her research on Shalish and Non State Justice Systems in Bangladesh. Mukta’s research on ADR systems in Sub Saharan Africa has been published by the World Bank Group as part of a book on Rule of Law called the Africa Justice Note in 2008. Mukta has organized meetings and trainings for visiting dignitaries to the World Bank Group in the Multi Door Court House System, a well known element of Alternate Dispute Resolution. She has also visited the World Bank Group as a guest speaker in mediation after she returned to India to work. Returning home to work in India, Mukta trained in mediation from Bombay High Court and is on the Mumbai University Mediation Expert Committee. Mukta has advised the Bombay High Court Main Mediation Committee on several mediation initiatives including upgrading existing mediation systems, teaching at Maharashtra Judicial Academy at Uttan and organising mediation programs. Mukta has taught negotiation and mediation in Mumbai University’s one year Post Graduate Diploma in Alternate Dispute Resolution and at the University National Law School, Mumbai. Mukta teaches negotiation and mediation at the post graduate level in ICADR (International Centre for Alternate Dispute Resolution) that comes under the central Ministry of Law and Justice. She also guest lectures at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. Mukta has advised Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur on ADR systems. Mukta currently serves on three expert committees (Law and Justice, ADR and Mediation) with the Indian Merchants’ Chamber where she plans and executes programs that facilitate dialogue between various stakeholders. Mukta is an international speaker and has lectured at the New York City Bar Association. She holds training programs in contract law and general and specific negotiation strategy for corporates. She is a member of Lincoln’s Inn, London and the Bar Association of Maharashtra and Goa. Mukta is a best selling author. She writes on effective negotiation and communication strategies at the Workplace. For her second book that released in 2012 “Let’s Talk, Negotiation and Communication at the Workplace” by Jaico Publishing House, that deals with working with difficult colleagues, Mukta has received the STAR YOUTH ACHIEVER AWARD by the 5th GLOBAL YOUTH MARKETING FORUM 2013, YOUNG ACHIEVER AWARD by WORLD HRD 2013 and the YOUNG ACHIEVER AWARD by Rotary Club of Bombay Sea face 2013. This book become a Crossword Bestseller within 11 days of publication. Her third book “Power Play, Getting Results Your Way” by Jaico Publishing House, released on December 5, 2015. This book deals with working with difficult superiors at the workplace. Mukta lectures extensively on her books at universities and management institutes. Mukta is also currently working on her fourth book, by Jaico Publishing House.
